This smoothie is packed full of cherries. I love spring/summer fruit! All things pitted … nom nom.

I was sitting out in my backyard in the sun and knew I wanted something refreshing and not too sweet. With my Vitamix out and ready to go I started hunting for ingredients. In the freezer I found frozen cherries and half a frozen banana. In the fridge I found plain goat’s milk yogurt from Redwood Hill Farm (our friend works there and we are trying it out … I love it!) With some yogurt and fruit I was off to a great start!

After adding some oats, a squirt of vanilla and dates it was perfect. Now I am back in the sun enjoying my pretty in pink concoction. It is the perfect blend of tart and a hint of sweet. It is smooth but not too creamy, still very refreshing.

 


{sweet and} SOUR Cherry Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 heaping cup frozen unsweetened tart cherries
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/3 cup yogurt ( I used plain goat’s milk I had on hand, but any will do… for the less sweet go with plain yogurt)
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 water
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 2 dates
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla (precisely 1 squirt from my vanilla extract bottle :)

Directions:

Add all ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. Feel free to play with the ratio of water or use any milk for creamier version. More dates or sweetener is you like sweet over sour. You could also add ice. This thinner version using only frozen fruit and water is flavorful and refreshing on a hot day!
